When I moved back to the north of Germany after many years, one day I wondered about the many guys in 70s outfits at the station. As I found out later, the people went to Hamburg for the annual Schlagermove. I became curious and went there the next year. A real experience, a peaceful festival on St. Pauli with many thousands of happy participants. In broad daylight, thousands of costumed people gather around the St. Pauli entertainment district in Hamburg. People drink, eat, laugh and gossip. By the time the long procession of colourful people and booming loudspeakers arrives, the mood has noticeably risen. One or two pop stars from earlier times adorned one of the lorries. The really tough ones meet up later on the Heiligengeistfeld and leave behind an impressive scene on the Reeperbahn.
